FACILITIES

In July 1998 the school moved from its rented premises in Simondium into the beautiful new buildings on the 28 hectares of land on the Waterval farm ten kilometres outside Franschhoek. Bridge House offers extensive teaching and sports facilities on its campus. An overview of these facilities is listed below.

MATHS & SCIENCE CENTRE

Recently built, modern facility for Maths, Science and Life Science (Biology) teaching.

  • Four state of the art Science and Biology laboratories
  • Fully equipped for Science and Biology teaching and experiments 
  • Separate preparation room and a laboratory technician on duty to set up experiments and practicals

INNOVATION HUB & LEARNING COMMONS

A collaborative media centre which focuses on blending the traditional approach to gathering knowledge, with essential future skills, including disruptive technologies.

  • A comprehensive library of fiction and non-fiction reading material
  • Collaborative and private work spaces
  • Digital technology includng a 3-D printer, robotics tables, bridge building equipment, Lego Spike and a green wall
  • Used by students from Pre-Primary to Grade 12

INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY

Three fully equipped IT centres for Prep and College students

  • College CAT and IT students use two of these facilities for subject teaching
  • Prep students from Pre-Primary to Grade 7 use the Prep IT Centre for subject teaching and research
  • Technology enabled learning takes place throughout the school
  • There is WiFi coverage across the school including these centres

THEATRE

The Bridge House Theatre was built to expand our love for the arts and to encourage and “grow” theatre in our community.

  • State of the art theatre including a large stage, professional lighting and sound equipment and grand piano
  • The Theatre seats 600 people in theatre seating format or 350 in dinner style table seating
  • Used for school productions, concerts, assemblies, awards ceremonies, events etc.
  • Can host professional productions
  • Available for hire for events
  • Fully equipped catering kitchen for theatre use

ART CENTRE

The Art Zone in the College covers two studio levels incorporating a mezzanine floor and a large classroom area. The Prep School has a separate Art Centre.

  • A variety of artwork display areas across the campus including Founders’ Walk
  • Visual Art theory and practical teaching spaces
  • Studio display spaces
  • Pottery kiln room

MUSIC & DRAMA CLASSROOMS

The Drama and Music classrooms for the College are attached to the Theatre. The Pre-Primary has a separate Activity Room and the Preparatory School has a medium-sized hall for Music and Movement and Drama Classes. 

  • The College Drama classroom has a small performance area and uses the stage in the Theatre as a rehearsal and performance space
  • Individual music classrooms are used for individual tuition in all music disciplines

INDOOR SPORTS GYMNASIUM

The Indoor Sports Gymnasium is used for physical education lessons across the school as well as various indoor team sports.

  • Indoor hockey, netball and indoor soccer are played in the gym
  • The gym is a large space and can be used for whole-school gatherings
  • There is an upstairs viewing space for spectators

SWIMMING POOL

  • A sparkling 25m pool is used by both Prep and College students
  • The pool is used for both water polo and swimming in the Summer Terms
  • A small pool for beginner swimmers (Pre-Primary and Junior Primary) is situated in the Junior Primary quad

HOCKEY ASTROTURF

  • A world-class, water-based Astroturf Hockey pitch is available for field hockey
  • The pitch is floodlit and ‘Friday Night Lights’ hockey matches are popular occasions for students and parents
  • The Astroturf is often used for training and matches by Provincial teams and is also the home of the Dragons Hockey Club

CRICKET OVALS

  • There are three cricket ovals, two with turf wickets and one with an artificial wicket
  • Three crickets nets with both turf and artificial surfaces are available
  • The ovals are used for inter-school, club and school provincial level fixtures
  • Our cricket ovals are regularly requested as a venue for international school touring teams

FOOTBALL & GENERAL PURPOSE FIELDS

  • In Winter, the cricket ovals are converted to two football fields and general purpose fields
  • The main field in front of the school is used for athletics days with an athletics track marked out
  • Cross country events take place around the two large field areas
  • The fields are used for physical education classes

TENNIS COURTS

  • We have four hard court tennis courts and a mini tennis area
  • These are situated behind the pool in a sheltered area of the school
  • Two of the hard courts are brand new, recently-resurfaced courts
  • The indoor gymnasium is marked up for tennis in bad weather

NETBALL COURTS

  • In winter, when netball is played, the tennis courts convert into four netball courts with netball being a popular game for both Prep and College girls
  • When the weather is bad, netball matches can be played in the indoor sports gymnasium

DINING ROOMS & TUCKSHOPS

  • We have two dining rooms situated on opposite sides of the campus, close to the boarding houses
  • Junior boarders have all their meals in the South Dining Room and Seniors enjoy their meals in the North Dining Room. Day students can have pre-ordered sit down, hot lunches in both dining rooms
  • Both dining rooms have fully equipped kitchens for food preparation with an emphasis on healthy eating
  • There are three tuckshop areas where light meals can be purchased
  • The Bridge House Coffee Shop is popular with parents for a quick coffee and snack top-up and Grades 11 and 12s students have the privilege of exclusive use of the Coffee Shop during their break times

GARDEN FARM

  • The recently planted Garden Farm adds a whole new dimension to the teaching and learning of sustainable living
  • Prep and College students are able to plant, weed and harvest vegetables during club times and in the afternoons
  • The design of the garden is based on the shape of the Nautilus Shell which has been used as a good example of describing the Fibonacci sequence in nature
  • The Garden Farm is surrounded by fruit trees which although small, are growing well
  • The vegetables harvested in the garden are used in the school dining rooms and tuckshops and excess vegetables are given to the various soup kitchens in the area
