WIDER CLASSROOM

In the words of the founder of the Round Square Organisation, Kurt Hahn:

“I regard it as the foremost task of education to ensure the survival of these qualities: an enterprising curiosity, an undefeatable spirit, tenacity in pursuit, readiness for sensible self-denial, and above all, compassion.”

The ideas of Kurt Hahn underpin the Wider Classroom philosophy at Bridge House, where we believe in offering activities outside of the classroom walls for our students to develop skills that will enable them to learn for life.

Outdoor experiences such as camps, extracurricular activities and educational outings, where self-directed learning beyond the classroom takes place, are organised. The Wider classroom provides opportunities for learning about leadership, service and entrepreneurship.

STUDENT LEADERSHIP

STUDENT'S REPRESENTATIVE COUNCIL

Democracy and Leadership are two of the Round Square pillars, or guidelines on which the Bridge House Leadership Structure is based. A decision was made when Bridge House School was founded to develop an inclusive type of student leadership with the accent on ‘servant leader’.

Every term, the students elect representatives from each class to stand on the SRC (Students’ Representative Council).  The SRC is coordinated and led by the executive of the Students’ Leadership Council which is elected annually by the pupils. Besides this, there are other opportunities for leadership on the sports, cultural or service fronts. Our SRC is one of the only true democratically elected school leadership bodies in the country.
