Bridge House Celebrates Excellence at the Cultural Awards Assembly

11

The Bridge House theatre came alive with inspiration, creativity, and artistic energy as we hosted our annual Cultural Awards Assembly, honouring the extraordinary talent, passion, and dedication of our learners across Music, Drama, Dance, Visual Arts, and Design.

Interdisciplinary Inspiration: “Stof tot Verhaal”

A highlight of the assembly was an extraordinary presentation by guest speakers Mrs Marisa MarĂ© (Head of Department: Visual Arts) and Mr Lucas Heinen (Head of Department: Afrikaans & Composer). They took our school community behind the scenes of their collaborative installation, “Stof tot Verhaal” (“From Dust to Story”), which was showcased at the Klein Karoo Nasionale Kunstefees (KKNK).

Set within the historic clock tower of the CP Nel Museum, their work brilliantly fused visual arts, science, music, and technology:

  • Microscopic Landscapes: Dust samples magnified 5,000 times under an electron microscope at Stellenbosch University revealed hidden historical detail.
  • Interactive Soundscapes: Visitors triggered bell chimes by lifting petri dishes of dust or unlocked immersive audio environments—powered by Arduinos, Karoo folklore, and creative AI coding—by opening vintage writing desks.

Beyond its technical brilliance, their presentation served as a powerful reminder of what happens when subjects intersect across disciplines, leaving our learners with lasting lessons in Courage, Integrity, and Curiosity.

While many learners earned well-deserved Half Colours for their artistic contribution, we are thrilled to celebrate those who achieved Full Colours for exceptional mastery:
