Tony Harris and the girls on the July 2005 camp

In 2005, Bridge House hosted an explore.inc Entrepreneurship Camp

Six Bridge House girls were part of a group of twenty-six girls from Herschel, Westerford, Paarl Girls High, La Rochelle, DF Malan High School and Somerset College who attended the first explore.inc entrepreneurship camp at Bridge House last year. The girls stayed in the boarding house and used the school's facilities. The camp was described as 'awesome, riveting and exciting', by the girls. Tony Harris, together with his energetic team, ran a camp jam-packed with lots of work and lots of fun. Tony was 'blown away' by the energy, insight, perception and maturity displayed by the girls. He said there was 'a terrific atmosphere with lots of fun and high energy'. Each day the girls were ready at 08h00 to begin their first session which included workshops on leadership, marketing, entrepreneurship skills, formulating a business plan, examining case studies, presentations, understanding financials, attending a lecture at the Business School and listening to the experiences of successful entrepreneurs. Individual personal action plans were worked out to keep the girls on track, motivated and enthusiastic. Canoe polo, mountain biking, hiking and even learning to surf were just some of the fun things the girls did during the week. The camp ended with a brunch, to which all the parents were invited and where the groups were required to do a short elevator presentation about their chosen businesses. These presentations were then evaluated by the audience. The winning group, whose business was called 'Dial a Cab', was awarded a surfing course at the Surf School in Muizenberg (a very popular prize).

We hope to hold further camps at some stage in the future.
