Boarding Information

Girls and boys are housed in modern, family-style boarding houses which have rooms with spectacular views of the surrounding mountains. The College boarders are housed in two buildings on campus with easy access to all the school facilities such as the IT Centre, the pool, tennis courts and the indoor sports gymnasium. The Prep boarders, from Grades 6 and 7, also have access to these facilities during the day but are currently housed off-campus in Huguenot House in Happy Valley road. Huguenot House was built to be an up-market guest house and, although adapted for our use, retains many of it’s original features.

Pupils come together for relaxation in large communal areas with fireplaces. Boarders meals are catered for by the Origin Food Management Services under the eye of our matron, Mrs Elmarie Rogers. Special dietary requirements are catered for and birthdays are celebrated with a cake (and some off key singing) at suppertime.

Mr Dave Fuller is Head of the College boys with Mrs Charmaine Eslick as Head of the girls. They are assisted by other staff members who live on the premises. The Prep boarders are looked after by their Matron, Mrs Liesl King, assisted by Mr Neal de Kock and Ms Dale Dunbar.

Mrs Elmarie Rogers, who lives on the premises, or one of her staff, is on hand every day to look after the physical well-being of the boarders. In the event of medical care being required, the Matron will decide whether the attention of the School Doctor is required.

An organised programme for homework and recreation is supervised by academic staff. There are a number of resident academic staff looking after the needs of our boarders.

Bridge House provides the ideal ‘home from home’ caring environment for boarders enabling them to experience the academic, cultural and sports programme to its fullest.

Boarders need to bring the following:

• Bedding for a single bed, a duvet and (at least two of each of the following, clearly labelled, if you are going to be using our laundry services): duvet covers, sheets, pillows and pillowcases.

• School clothes (except black lace-up shoes) as indicated on our website can be purchased at our school shop. Bridge House sports clothing can also be purchased at the school shop.

• Comfortable clothes to change into after school and to wear over weekends as well as specialist sportswear.

• Sleepwear and underwear and equipment.

• Toiletries (including towels).

• 2 laundry bags and 'delicates' bags. All clothing must be clearly labelled. Labels may not be iron-on as these tend to come off in the tumble drier. Our laundry is out-sourced and will be charged to your account.

• Torch - essential for power outages.

• Keyring (we provide a padlock and key).

• Weekend bag.

• Coat hangers.

• Stationery.

• Snacks (in a sealable plastic container to avoid attracting ants).

Some boarders bring computers, cell phones and other expensive equipment. Although we provide padlocks for the cupboards, it is up to the individual boarders to take responsibility for and to insure their belongings. Large sums of money should be handed to one of the Directors of Boarding for safekeeping.

All boarders are regarded as full time termly boarders. They may go out for weekends (not portions of weekends), but they are required to notify the matron by the previous Thursday for catering and duty purposes.

Boarders will not be allowed to come and go at will during the weekends and, if they are not signed out for the weekend, may leave the school premises only for school-sanctioned activities.

Should boarders have sport or a school function on Saturday morning, they may stay in Boarding until this is completed, but must inform the matron by the previous Thursday.

Boarders going out for the weekends with anyone other than people indicated on the attached form, will be required to fill in an exeat form. Written permission from parents is also required.

All boarders going out for the weekend must leave by 4.00pm on Friday and return between 5.00 pm and 8.30pm on Sunday. Dinner is served at 6.15pm.

The Boarding House rules are available as a download below and must be read in conjunction with the Bridge House Code of Conduct.
